Recall? What is that?

Most dog owners have had that heart stopping, gut wrenching feeling that happens when your dog decides to bolt away from you and not come back when called. You get those thoughts of “please don’t run in front of a car, or eat that cat, or jump on that child and do not go after that dog…”

Here….Come….Get Back Here… Whatever you want to call it, what it SHOULD mean is, No matter what you are doing, get to me as fast as you can and as close as possible. Preferably close enough to put a leash on.

Some dogs like to chase cars and bikes, small animals, or just play a good game of chase, but this is a dangerous game now days. Most dogs don’t know that streets are dangerous and cars can hit them. There are a few things we can do to keep safe,

  1. Keep your dog on leash, especially if they don’t have a solid recall, are somewhere new, or are near a road.
  2.  Teach your dogs that the road is not the place to go, to my pack, the road is off limits unless I say so.
  3.  A solid recall is a must, there are many different ways we can achieve this, and I can help you do it!

How would you feel about having the confidence in knowing that your dog will come back when you call?

This isn’t just about roads and danger, what about the fun stuff? I love knowing I can take my dogs off leash camping, and knowing that even with deer, rabbits, and rodents running around, they know how to make good decisions and stay close! Recall is the ultimate show of trust and also allows our city dogs to have a little freedom to stretch their legs and have some fun.
